SEVHAGE Publishers is pleased to announce the release of How It Will Be Told, a deeply reflective and soulfully written poetry collection by debut poet and photographer, Sulaimon Sabitu. This evocative body of work is the latest in their collaborative ABC4DE Series (No. 11).

How It Will Be Told is a meditation on memory, identity, love, and belonging. In fluid, open verse, Sabitu journeys through childhood, place, and the emotional landscapes of the self. From the brown-roofed city of Ibadan to the ache of travel, from mother’s hands to communal longing, the poems explore the fullness of a life lived across tenderness and turbulence. Written with stylistic freedom and an intuitive musicality, the collection draws from Yoruba oral traditions while speaking in a modern voice. Poems such as Ode to the Brown Roof, Our Communal Ache, Cycle, and Tell Me How Much Silence You Contain testify to Sabitu’s capacity to hold both the intimate and the expansive in a single breath.
According to multiple award-winning author and scholar, Soji Cole, the verses in How It Will Be Told, “with their repeated invocations, their undulating cadences, mirror the oral traditions of African storytelling where song, speech, and memory coalesce.”
The book also speaks to the broader creative ethos of the African & Black Creatives for Development (ABC4DE) movement: to centre local voices, celebrate lived experiences, and use the arts as a bridge between personal expression and social transformation.
