NGUGI wa THIONG’O: An Ancestor Goes Home

Sometimes, you wait to see if an announcement would come to say the passage of someone dear is a rumour or mistake. However, when it comes from some sources, you know it is an idle wish. And so is the case with our dear Ngugi wa Thiong’o (1938-2025), beloved literary icon, generous spirit, and noted Africanist of letters.

All of us at SEVHAGE, individually and collectively, mourn the loss of our Mwalimu and living ancestor who now rests with those gone by.

Rest on, Ngugi, and thank you for your contributions to literature, sociology, and history. Rest on, Mwalimu.
