SEVHAGE’s DUL JOHNSON WINS THE ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN AUTHORS/ABUBAKAR GIMBA PRIZE FOR SHORT STORIES 2023

SEVHAGE author, Dul Johnson has clinched the Association of Nigerian Authors/Abubakar Gimba Prize for Short Stories 2023 with the short story collection, When Dreams Burn (SEVHAGE/NIPRI, 2023). The ANA prizes, which are among the most prestigious literary prizes in Nigeria were announced on the 4th of November, 2023 at the Association’s annual convention held in Abuja. This award comes six years after Dul won the Association’s Prose Prize for his novel, Across the Gulf (SEVHAGE, 2017) and nine years after being shortlisted for the Drama version of the prize in 2014 with his Melancholia (SEVHAGE, 2014).

When Dreams Burn was published by SEVHAGE and NIPRI in 2023 and is an intriguing collection of short stories from the seasoned author of note.

Professor Dul Johnson is a prolific writer and filmmaker who writers across the genres. Among other publications, he is the author of two collections of short stories, Shadows and Ashes and Why Women Won’t Make it to Heaven; a play, Melancholia (SEVHAGE, 2014) and a novel, Deeper into the Night (SEVHAGE, 2014). Dul is also a seasoned scholar and academic who has taught at the University of Jos, Jos; the National Film Institute, Jos; the Television College, Jos; Nasarawa State University, Keffi and Bingham University, Karu, where he is Deputy Vice Chancellor.
